Experience The Nutcracker at Popejoy Hall

The Nutcracker BIO

The Nutcracker is the world's most performed ballet, a two-act Christmas classic with music composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and choreography originally by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov. Premiering in St. Petersburg, Russia in 1892, the story follows young Clara who receives a nutcracker doll on Christmas Eve, which comes to life and battles the Mouse King before taking her on a magical journey to the Kingdom of Sweets. This enchanting performance is presented by the Ballet Repertory Theatre of New Mexico at the Kimo Theatre in Albuquerque on December 20, 2026.

The Nutcracker is part of the holiday season performances that take place across North America from November to January. Each production showcases local dancers and orchestral accompaniment, making it a cherished annual tradition for families. The performance features highlights such as the "March of the Toy Soldiers," "Waltz of the Snowflakes," and culminates in the "Grand Pas de Deux."

This beloved ballet has become synonymous with holiday celebrations, accounting for nearly half of many ballet companies' annual revenues. Audiences can expect a positive live performance vibe, as past experiences have shown that families attend in festive attire, creating a joyful atmosphere.
